East Region Synchro Development Day

Forty four synchronised swimmers and their coaches from across the Region attended a Regional Development Day in Cambridgeshire and was supported by all of the Hertfordshire Synchro Clubs

International judge Jennifer Gray, a member of the FINA Technical Synchronised Swimming Committee, began the day by leading a theory session in the school's impressive lecture theatre. Participants were wowed by Jenny's video footage from the team event at the 2010 European Synchronised Swimming Championships, and finished the session with a greater understanding of the judging process in their sport. The swimmers were also encouraged to reflect on what they could do to improve the own competition marks.

Swimmers then participated in a carousel of activities, including a 90 minute pool session, where they choreographed their own routines, again under the expert supervision of Jenny Gray, who encouraged all participants to put into practice what they had learnt in the initial theory lesson. The need for core strength and flexibilty was also emphasised in a highly challenging yet enjoyable gymnastics session.

This was the first of what the ASA East Region Synchronised Swimming Focus Group hopes will be an annual programme of activities designed to raise the profile and standard of the discipline within the Region, and was ably organised by the Region's and Hertfordshire's Synchronised Swimming Manager Amy Bryant. The group will shortly begin the process of organising a Regional Championships.
