Watford Water Polo U15’s win London League title & U13’s remain undefeated in League title push

Last Sunday at Habs School our U15’s secured the London League U15’s title after a tense battle with local rivals Ealing.

ollowing the previous weekend’s defeat to Ealing in the league the team know that only victory over Ealing & a win over Chelmsford would hand them the trophy on goal difference & defeat was not an option. The game opened with both sides trading goals earlier on as Watford’s Benji Furrer got his side’s first goal via a breakaway swim from his own half before Eaing levelled at 1-1. Watford moved back in front thanks to a James lamb strike but Ealing levelled once again 40 seocnds later for 2-2. The first half came to a close with Furrer netting a second from 5 metres give his side a slender 3-2 lead.

The second half saw Watford command the game & with defence now taking control they closed down any Ealing opportunities. The team managed to extend they lead to 4-2 with a goal from Max Cohen with only 120 seconds remaining. Watford then ran down the clock to secure that all-important win over their closest rivals.

The final game of the season against Chelmsford and it was win & take the title, defeat & Ealing would claim the title.

Again both sides traded goals early as the score quickly moved to 2-2, Elias Thierry & James Lamb getting the Watford goals.

With 1.52 to play in the first half Watford hit a purple patch and scored three quick goals via brace from Furrer & a Max Cohen goal for a 5-2 lead at half time.

Into the second half & Watford scored first via Jaroash Mathan but Chelmsford then hit back with two quick goals of their own for a 6-4 score-line.

But with 4.47 mins to play Watford weren’t going to give up the chance of a title win & a five goal salvo put any chance of a Chelmsford victory to bed & Watford won the 2017 London League U15’s title by goal difference from their local rivals Ealing.

The final five goals came via a hat-trick from James Lamb and efforts from Jacob Halperin & Cohen.

The team then hit five unanswered goals as they turned a one goal deficit into a four- goal lead for 7-4. But with only a minute to go Croydon mounted a fight back as three quicks goals in 45 seconds had the visitors within a goal for 7-6 but with time nearly up another Watford goal closed the game out at 8-6…Phew.

Next up Beckenham and the first half was a much calmer affair then the first game as the team took a 4-1 lead at Half time. The second half and both sides scored but really nothing else happened as the game finished 5-2 to Watford.

The final game of the today was against Ealing and again it was a case of get the job done early as the team took a 3-0 lead at half time. The second half & Watford scored early for 4-0 before Ealing hit one late on to finish the 4-1.
