Watford Water Polo Saxons win place back into BWPL for the 2017/18 season

Watford Saxons qualified for the 2017/18 BWPL season after finishing second in Saturday’s qualifier tournament at Walsall Gala Baths.

Having finished the 2016/17 season in seventh position the team needed to re-claim their spot in next season’s BWPL by finishing as one of three sides in the four team play-off.

The first game on Saturday afternoon was against Essex side Chelmsford & the opening half was all one-way traffic as the Saxons built a comfortable 5-1 lead thanks to goals from Jarryd Myburgh, Hugh Dyason, Ernest Aw & a double from Chum Yi Lim. In to the second half & the Saxons continued the onslaught with four further goals to complete a very comfortable 9-1 victory. Dyason hit two more for his hat-trick with Edward Chow & Ben Simkins finding the scoresheet as well.

With the teams first win under their belts the side know that victory against Spalding would guarantee participation into Div Five next season & the Saxons set about the Lincolnshire side and put the game to bed by half time as their took a 5-1 lead. Aw, Lim & Dyason were back on the scoresheet along with a double from Alex Norcliffe. The second half continued in the same vein as the team hit a further seven to finish the game 12-4 victors.

The final game of the day against Coventry didn’t go to plan as the team lost 5-10 however the objective of qualification was achieved.
