Watford Water Polo U14's Winter League Champions

The Watford Water Polo U14′s won the Winter League Championship title for the 2016/17 season after another faultless display at Whitgift School last Sunday afternoon as they won their three matches in the Top 4 final Division.

The team beat Beckenham 7-2 and then following a one match break they took on Worthing and Chelmsford in back to back matches winning 10-0 and 6-3 respectively.

It was an excellent team performance, with the team especially performing well in defence only conceding 5 goals over the three matches.

Captain Max Cohen lead from the front with some strong leadership & was ably supported by Elias both in and out of the pool. James Lamb was strong in pit and Ryan played with confidence in his first A team match.

Great defensive work from Theo and Jaroash enable the team & Goalie Mark Markov to only concede those five goals. Benji was top goal scorer with 9, Zack and James added to the tally with 5 apeice.

The U18s made it a perfect Sunday as their progressed to the Winter League final after a convincing 14-2 win against Croydon at QE Boys School.

The game opened with Watford taking a 4-1 lead with goals from Will Eggleton, Adam Page & a double from Josh Silverbeck, Croydon scored early to make it 1-1 but from that point the team took control.

Into the second half & Watford weren’t taking it easy & in a seven-minute spell they had built a very commanding 9-1 lead with goals from Djorjdic, Eggleton, Page, Warman & Myburgh.

The second half saw the U18’s score two early goals for 11-1 (Silverbeck & Kumarage) before Croydon got their game together to score three unanswered goals before another Eggleton goal 3 seconds before the end of the third quarter had Watford 12-3 in front.

The final period saw Croydon score twice for 12-5 before another Djordjic & Page goal apiece had the score at 14-5. Croydon hit the final goal of the game but is was too little too late as Watford won comfortably 14-6.

Josh Silverbeck was man of the match netting 3 goals and putting in an outstanding pit defence performance.

The team will now play Enfield (date tbc) at either Habs or QE Boys Schools.
