Hatfield win the Herts KO Cup

Hatfield took advantage of the handicap scores to beat beat Watford to take the Herts KO Cup Final on 26th November at Woodside.

Watford needed to overturn a sixteen goal deficit to win the trophy for the second year in a row. Despite winning the game 23-12 the goal margin was just too great.

The reason Watford had such a hugh goal difference to overturn was due to the club winning the Herts Div One title in 2013 & Hatfield finishing bottom of Div Two in 2013.

Bizarrely Watford under the leagues handicap rules for cup competitions were handed a +2 goal start & Hatfield +16 hence the sixteen goal difference.

The game began with Watford in fine form storming into a four goal lead after only four minutes play, goals came via Tamas Csendes, Nandi Cseh, Zoltan Agocs & Andy Holt however an error in the Watford defence allowed Hatfield’s Charlie Briers to score and register his team’s first goal of the night but with a 1.11 mins remaining of the first quarter Sam Carling hit his teams fifth of the night but the quarter ended without Watford registering any further goals. 5-1 (7-19 on handicap).

Into the second quarter & Watford turned up the pressure as the team continued to find the back of the Hatfield net and with six goals scored the score moved onto 11-1 (13-19).

Watford’s scores in this six goal blast were Holt with three, Csendes, Agocs & Jack Pickford with a goal apiece. However critically Watford then conceded two major fouls & Hatfield took full advantage of the man-up situations to score two goals of their own, Csendes got another goal with a minute of the first half remaining but Hatfield hung on to reach half time at 12-3 (14-21).

Watford had now cut the deficit in half & all was looking good for a continued charged towards winning the Cup Final for a second year in a row  however Hatfield had other ideas & hit Watford a hammer blow as they throw caution to the wind & took the game to their opponents they hit four unanswered goals to undo all the good work Watford had built up in the first half (14-25). Watford’s Csh then steadied the ship with a goal but another major foul conceded by watford allowed Hatfield their fifth goal of the period.

Watford’s Andy Holt then scored and shortly after conceded a major foul to allow Hatfield to register another goal but with one minute of the third period remaining Watford went through the gears to score three quick fire goals to more the scores onto 17-9 (19-27). The three goals came via Cami Baker & a double from Holt.

Into the final period & it was all or nothing for the team two early goals via Watford’s Hungarian players Cseh & Csendes had Watford within six of levelling the game but a major foul by Sadovskii allowed Hatfield to score back came watford & another two goals this time from Cseh & Carling had Watford believing they could get the goals they required & with two man-up situations it looked like Watford were going to do it but both chances weren’t taken & Hatfield then advanced down the other end to score again. From the restart Watford pressed & forced an major foul which Csendes converted but with timing running out another Csendes goal wasn’t enough as Hatfield hit their eleven of the night with 28 seconds of the game remaining.
