Ian Watson Passes Away

It is with sadness that the county informs you that Ian Watson has passed away, losing his battle with ill health over many years.

Ian gave many years of voluntary service to Hertfordshire ASA and the former Southern Counties ASA.  He was President of Hertfordshire ASA in 1988, and was also a Life Vice-President.

Initially a competitive swimmer at club, county, district and national levels, he subsequently focussed on water polo, although he was an active, qualified swimming official for many years as well.

He was the club secretary for Hitchin SC for fourteen years. Ian was Hertfordshire’s county secretary for fourteen years, county water polo manager until two years ago, and he was the first chairman of the Hertfordshire ASA Management Board.

In October at the ASA Annual Dinner, he was awarded the prestigious Harold Fern Award by the ASA on the recommendation of the region, in recognition of his service over many years.

His contribution to the county and its athletes is immeasurable, and his expertise in the administrative affairs of the county has been invaluable.
