Hertfordshire Disability Development Day (reminder)

SATURDAY, 18th February 2012 will see the second Hertfordshire Disability Development Day for swimming, which will be held at the Herts Sports Village, Hatfield.    The day starts at 11:30am with an educational programme for swimming teachers and coaches, with a choice of two CPD’s one on working with children with educational difficulties and the other on how to integrate disabled swimmers into a mainstream coaching environment with additional focus on visual impairment.

Paralympian Bronze medallist Dervis Konuralp has been invited to give a motivational talk to the teachers, coaches, swimmers and parents who will arrive for the pool session at 5pm.  Dervis has represented Great Britain at four Paralympic Games, three World Championships and four European Championships.  Dervis, who has so far won 35 International medals including 14 gold, is visually impaired and swims in the S13 classification.  He is also a record holder.

Michelle Weltman, lead coach for the London Disability Swim Squad, who will be tutoring the second CPD, will run the pool session where the qualified teachers and coaches will develop swim skills with the athletes.  Carl Cooper Playground to Podium Officer will be present during the day to talent ID swimmers.
